After travelling thru Gunning many times midweek and looking at the closed but very interesting Picture House Gallery with a fair bit of frustration I finally managed to get tehre on an open day.
Who would have thought a little place like Gunning would be the home of so many gifted artists and their artwork? Amazing really, and then I met one of the town's real treasures, Max Cullen, who was just sorting out the new gallery area. I have admired his acting work for years, and Sunday Too far Away is one of my favourite films, so it was a real treat to meet Max and have a chat about art and the town and his plans for the gallery. There are some striking pieces of art on the walls, and as a cartoonist it was great to see original cartoons up there as well.
Many thanks for making the visit a real treat, and for the Gary Day artwork which is going to make someone very happy for Christmas, I can't wait to pass through again on one of those open days :)

I stumbled upon your wonderful website tonight while doing some research on the web. It's a beautifully laid out site. I love the way you used a book to frame your photos and text. Your bookshop and gallery seem magical along with the little town of Gunning.

I live in Los Angeles, but I have long appreciated Australian film and plan to visit Australia in the future. I have a friend in Canberra, but I want to travel all over to see the places I've read about in person, like Sydney, Alice Springs, Melbourne, and now, little towns like Gunning and The Picture House.

I wish your books were listed online. I'd love to know exactly what you have.
Although many are buying Kindles, I prefer a book, the weight of it, the feel of it, the sheer pleasure of turning real pages, and especially inserting my comments as I read.

I wish you much good luck in keeping books alive. Bookstores are dying out in the States because of online monopolies, so when I see a wonderful one like yours, I am always heartened.

Best wishes,

Nellie Bly

Dear Max
We enjoyed discovering the Picture House Gallery and Bookshop last weekend. We will certainly return with others so they can enjoy it, too. The two little books I bought from your bookshop on photography, both from 1940, were well received by our sons. Best wishes, Barb Roux
